About the Tier List
This tier list is entirely based on DPS viability for Season 1of The War Within. The primarytraits we are looking for have not changed and are what you would expect for raidingcontent. Mainly, we care about single-target damage; some burst cleave or AoE,and then defensive capabilities on a raid-wide or individual scale. Unique class utilitybuffs are also worth noticing and can be worth bringing a specific class for, but veryfew buffs are spec-specific.
While the traits that make a character valuable in a raid have not changedmuch, there are two incredibly important new factors to consider.
- Because of the new talent/hero talent trees, classes now have the freedom of choiceto decide how to build in various situations. However, this also means thatcertain classes are forced into specializing in either AoE or single target fordifferent bosses. While some classes have excellent pure single-target damage, theycan lose a significant portion of that damage when forced to take even a few pointsof AoE talents.
1.1.
A Final Warning
It is incredibly important to emphasize that just because a DPSspecializationis low in the tier list, it does not mean that you should ignore it completely. For the vast majorityof cases, you should choose to bring the better player, not the betterspecialization. That does notmean you never need to think about your raid composition; it is just that most of thetime, player skillwill be more important than the difference between classes, assuming you alreadyhave the requiredraid buffs. All being lower tier means is that allelse being equal, those specs will be less desirable for the raid based oncurrent tuning.

From a competitivesingle-target (one of the best) to good cleave options when factors extra mobs surroundthe main target, you really can't go wrong with this spec. On top of this, their durability has improved, introducing several new ways to mitigatedamage Seasoned Winds and Stone Bulwark Totem. Frost Death Knight
Patch 11.0.5 update:Frost Death Knight's biggest strength comes fromtheir ability to deal insane single target damage while simultaneouslycleaving multiple targets at once, thus excelling best in situations wheremore targets are present. There are a few specific fightswhere the Frost Death Knight shines, especially the ones where Death Grip ability can be utilized (not many of them). Overall, with great defensive capabilities, a Raid "utility" ( Anti-Magic Zone)and a great damage profile, Frost Death Knight is a great choice forany raid looking to add more melee specializations.

Assassination Rogue
Patch 11.0.5: Assassination Roguewill remain a great choice for the second half of Season 1. Their single-target willbe excellent, retaining its signature priority-target damage while also cleaving. On top of this, Rogue is known to be durable, have high mobility and at last, having a raid buff (thanks to Atrophic Poison). We believe Assassination Roguewill continue to be one of the best melee choices.

Beast Mastery Hunter
Patch 11.0.5 update:Beast Mastery Hunter stands out as it is one of the few Ranged DPSoptions capable of performing their entire rotation while moving andnot losing DPS. This makes them invaluable for any mechanics or tasksrequired during a fight. In addition, their single target, especially sustained,is one of the best, which is the driving factor for choosing its rankings. They also havegotten better survivability compared to the previous expansion, with 2x chargesof Survival of the Fittest. However, one of the main disadvantages of havingBeast Mastery Hunter is that they suffer from a lack ofspread cleaving (when mobs are far away from each other).

Arcane Mage
Patch 11.0.5 update: Arcane Magereceived buffs that will increase their already competitive single-target,but more importantly, has some of the best single target burst damage in the game for asmall burst windows. Arcane is a top-heavy spec in terms of the skill required to trulymake use of its phenomenal toolkit; in the hands of the right player, it is incrediblypowerful in terms of the raw damage and burst potential. Mages are also still quite strongdefensively, and immunities like Ice Block / Ice Cold will always have valuein a raid. Anytime there is a damage increase phase or a requirement for a burst-damageorientated scenario, Arcane Mage will be great.

Patch 11.0.5 update: Arms Warriorreceived healthy buffs leading to the second part of Season 1. Their damage profile is their strongestasset as they currently have great single-target, 2-target, and on-demand burstdamage if an opportunity arrives. They also have one of the best Execute damagein the game, making them an amazing candidate to progress dangerous bosses thatrequire more output in later phases.

Survival Hunter
Patch 11.0.5 update: Survival Hunterreceived a notable amount of changes leading to the second half of the raiding tier, which willimprove their damage performance. The spec will now do better to sustain single-targetdamage, but due to its lack of meaningful raid-wide buffs, will likely be pushed off the"optimal" melee setup for raids. Still, they are versatile enough to be capable of doingwell in any encounter, regardless of the target count.

Patch 11.0.5 update: Marksmanship Hunterhas gotten its fair share of changes leading up to the second half of the Nerub-ar Palace.Their single target will remain their strongest asset, all together with theirhigh mobility gameplay. In addition, you have an option to deliver AoE damage whilemaintaining your priority-target damage, which is an advantage depending on the boss fights. At last, your 2-target cleave is among the weakest so anytime there is such a fight you willend up being punished.

Patch 11.0.5 update: Retribution Paladinreceived a minor nerf leading to the second half of the season. This will put themmore in line with the rest of the melee specs, while still allowing themto keep their incredible tankiness. Make no mistake, they will still retain their greatsingle-target damage. At last, you have a great utility suitable for raiding, which can be of help for any raiding team.

Devastation Evoker
Patch 11.0.5 update:Devastation Evokers are going to continue to have powerful single-target damage, both burst-orientated and sustained throughout the second part of Season 1. They excel inhandling movement effortlessly, which enables them to execute their rotation withoutany issues while on the move. However, it's important to keep in mind that they have alimited range of 25 yards, which could be a disadvantage in certain situations dependingon your group's positioning. We believe they will be an excellent ranged DPS optionin the second half of the Nerub-ar Palace tier due to their damage outputand impressive burst potential.

With a single talent build, they are able to compete effectively infights that require a mixture of combat styles. One of their greatest strengths lies in theirability to deal strong cleave damage to 2-5 targets, as well as burstarea-of-effect damage. Nevertheless, Demon Hunters still have access to the powerful Darkness ability, which can serve as a valuable raid cooldown.

Speaking about single-target, itwill continue to be good, but sadly, nowhere near the best as it was before. In addition, your best-performing builds are not going to enable you to have the god-like spread cleavedamage as you used to. Their durabilityhas never been an issue, as well as their utility (just like every Rogue spec so far).Unfortunately, its siblings' specs are currently stronger and you might not seemuch playtime because of it. Shadow Priest
Patch 11.0.5 update: Shadow Priesthave one of the strongest external damage cooldown - Power Infusion, which can benefitboth them and the chosen target thanks to the Twins of the Sun Priestess talent.By itself, Shadow Priest single-target damage output is decent, but theability to focus their primary target and effortlessly cleave multiple targets, evenif they are not close to each other. Additionally, they can off-heal with Vampiric Embrace, which can be a lifesaver in critical situations during raids. Balance Druid
Patch 11.0.5 update: Balance Druidreceived a massive amount of changes leading up to the second half of Season 1.Balance Druid, you may not have the highestsingle-target output, but your damage toolkit is well-rounded and all-inclusive,making you a valuable asset in the game. Starfall, in particular, is aunique ability that sets you apart from other specs as it allows you to constantlycleave spread groups of enemies. While this may not matter in most fights, Boomkins areamazing choice when facing multi-target fights. Also, don't forget the mandatory Mark of the Wild raid-wide buff is a must in every raid, making it moreappealing to pick them up. At last, their single-target has been steadily improvingsince the start of the tier and is now more on par with majority of the DPS specs.

Affliction Warlock
Patch 11.0.5 update:Sadly, Affliction Warlock did not receive any relevant changes leadingto the second half of Season 1. Although they have great on-demand damage, theycurrently have mediocre single-target, a major factor for the placement inour tierlist. They have much betterflexibility in builds — a strong single-target build, amazing hybrid options, and heavy AoE if needed. They are one of the strongest specs when choosing yourcomposition against council-type of fights, where spread-cleave damage witha stong presence of priorty-target damage is needed.

Patch 11.0.5 update:Although Unholy Death Knight didn't receive any impactful changesleading to the second half of the raiding, they will still retain theirsignature good single-target damage (bursty too!). On top of this, theyare quite a durable melee DPS option and have useful raid-wide utility tools( Anti-Magic Zone / Death Grip) Overall we are happy with theperformance of this spec, although for the majority of the time its sibling spec(Frost) will likely outshine them.

Augmentation Evoker
Patch 11.0.5 update: Augmentation Evokerwill continue to be a great choice in the second half of the raid tier in The War Within, thanks to its ability to enhance the damage and defensive capabilities of your raid members. While theplayers behind the Prescience and Ebon Might buffs are responsible formost of their damage, having at least one Augmentation Evoker in your raidcomposition can be very advantageous. Demonology Warlock
Patch 11.0.5 update:.Demonology Warlock received some positive damage adjustments that will makethem a stronger Ranged option in the second half of the Season. Their single-targetdamage has been steadily improving, although it still needs more attention to alignwith the majority of the spec, which is also a major factor for their placement.Although they have all the qualities to climb our tier list (quite tanky and providethe usual Warlock utility), further raw damagebuffs must be implemented for us to rank them higher.

Feral Druid
Patch 11.0.5 update: Feral Druidpossesses all the typical utility of a Druid, including the ability to provide Innervate and Mark of the Wild.Their single-target will be unfortunately moderate, making it much harderfor them to fight for a spot in the upcoming raiding tier. Fire Mage
Patch 11.0.5 update:Fire Mage will continue to be poor in the second halfof the tier due to raw damage. Although they have an incredible on-demand burst damage profile, which is great for key DPS checks and being relatively mobile compared to therest of the Ranged DPS choices out there (this allows you to execute your rotationflawlessly without losing much DPS while moving), it is not enough to be placed higher on the tier-listat this moment. They are one of themost durable raid specializations. At last, Fire Mages are known for theirincredible toolkit and are traditionally useful for progression or damage in demand. We believe further buffs are likely to send this specialization straight to the top asthey possess every quality of a top raiding specialization, except the damage.
